The Jewish quarters of Jerusalem which were under fire for the second day in succession were entered by security forces on that day, and 15 young men were detained. During the weekend, six Arabs were arrested and Three Jews and a British soldier were killed while 18 Jews, three British Policemen and at least 3 Arabs were injured.

Police searched houses in the Shimon Hatzadik Quarter in Jerusalem, arrested 15 Jews and confiscated a small quantity of arms. The Jews were taken to the Kishleh Lock-up and one off them , a 15-year old youth , was released on bail.

Under cover of fire , Arabs set fire to two houses in the Quarter . A Police armoured car came on the scene but made no attempt to tackle the flames, but another armoured car brought the Jewish fire brigade . Although under fire, they extinguished the flames in one house, but had to withdraw when their escort left. They appealed to the Police in vain for another escort and the second blaze continued.

Just after four o'clock, a British Policeman was shot and wounded while helping two injured Jews on to a truck. A few minutes later a British Police cadet officer was hit by a snipers bullet from the Sheikh Jarah (Arab) Quarter.

Using grenades and smallarms , Arabs attacked the Jewish Quarter of the Old City about 2.30 pm . yesterday . They bombed a hole in the Warsaw House. Haganah guards and troops engaged the Arabs, whe killed Yehuda Levi , 35, wounded Aryeh Avisar and two Policemen (Cpl. Halm Tabori, 32 , Constable Nehamia Cohen, 21, and another). Levi , who was ar ex-soldier and P.o.W . left a wife and child behind. While soldiers and Haganah members replied to the Arab attack, one Haganah party threw incendiary bombs at an Arab house used as a base. The house went ur in flames, but no casualties were reported.

According to Arab sources, the Arabs have warned the British Army in the Old City that if they reply to the attacks, the Arabs will fire back.

Following the attack which wrecked the Moslem Brotherhood building in the Sheikh Tarah Quarter on 1 January 1948⁩ night, Arabs attacked the Shimon Hatzadik, Nahlat Yitzhak
